A French composer of the 19th Century, he is known for his operas, especially his final work Carmen. From the first act of the opera, Carmen sings this in mocking defiance to Zuniga, after she is accused of knifing a co-worker in a fight. The melody is shared between the upper voices, while the fourth part carries the accompaniment. There is an optional alto flute also provided for flute 4.
