Handel’s Messiah (in Five Minutes)
Composed by George Frideric Handel
Arranged for Flute Choir by Judy Nishimura
Published by Alry Publications
Includes score and parts
Instrumentation: Piccolo, 4 C Flutes, Alto Flute (or C Flute), Bass Flute, Contrabass Flute (optional)
Based on Themes from Handel’s Oratorio “The Messiah”
A great addition to Judy Nishimura’s “5 Minute Masterpieces” collection! At the beginning, the free-form treatment of a theme from the “Hallelujah” chorus sets up the triumphant “Glory to God in the Highest.” The piece then combines two of the livelier choruses: “For Unto Us a Child Is Born” and “He Shall Purify.” The solemn “Amen” comes next, followed by a short fragment from “I Know My Redeemer Liveth.” “He Shall Feed His Flock” is the last stop before the rousing finale of the “Hallelujah” chorus. Wonderful for holiday concerts where performing an entire flute choir arrangement of “The Messiah” would be unfeasible.
