In April 1878, following a long sojourn in Europe, Tchaikovsky returned to Russia and spent some time with his sister's family. It was no doubt here that the idea for his “Children's Album” matured. The work, once completed, was dedicated to his nephew Wladimir Dawydow and published as Op39.
