      J.B. Forester personifies the transition from the founding generation of Czech music(Smetana, Dvorak, Fibich) to modern music. This particular quintet begins with an allegro moderato, moving to a meno mosso in 12/8 time which is quite challenging for all parts. The second movement is an andante sostenuto, a flowing 3/4 section, then an allegro section. Movement three is an allegro scherzando in 6/8 time, transitioning to an andante con moto section. The final movement is in 3/4 time moving through several tempo changes.
