Learning to Play the Flute, Volume 1
By Simon Hunt
With an introduction by Jean-Pierre Rampal
Published by Pan Educational Music
Author's Foreword:
This book is intended to be an introduction to the whole subject of the flute rather than just another method. I have tried to bring together different aspects of the instrument, around the central purpose of progressive exercises, melodies and duets. The present volume is not intended to provide material for the advanced player.
My hope is that it may fill some gaps of knowledge and understanding of the flute and flute-playing in its early stages.
Since writing the above words in 1978, I have had the pleasure and interest of writing and publishing all kinds of teaching and recreational material for the young (and not-so-young) flutist. I have been privileged to become friendly with teachers from many parts of the world and listen to and discuss their approaches to teaching, and consider their pupils' needs. I hope that this new edition will continue to be helpful to the new generation of flute-players, and above all, that it be enjoyable to use.
