After finishing this little series of dances, the composer had no aprropriate title. He played the piece for his wife at breakfast. Pleased with the cheerful nature of it, she suggested that it be called Notebook for Papageno. “But he plays the glockenspiel” the composer replied. “Well call it Notebook for Tamino“. “Right, “said the composer, “Tamino has to practice,” and he wrote the newly born title on the first page of the score. Tamino refers to the leading character in Mozart's famous opera “The Magic Flute” or “Die Zauberflote.”
