Description
Partita in a – Sonata in a
Composer: Bach, JS
Publisher: Little Piper
Instrumentation: Flute
This publication is taken from the oldest known source, an eighteenth century copyist’s manuscript at the Berlin State Library of Prussian cultural property. We have reproduced this manuscript in our publication for your observation. Please note that the work was most likely copied by two different copyists, as the writing style changes after the first double bar in the Allemande. We have corrected some obvious mistakes in the manuscript, and have indicated these changes for the performer. This work is sometimes referred to as Sonata in a minor, but this is incorrect as it is a collection of dances and should be called a Partita in a minor. Though this is an urtext edition, I have included some editorial comments to aid the performer. These suggestions are indicated by asterisks. By all means, add additional articulations at your discretion. For example, the Sarabande should be mostly legato and slurred. We hope that you enjoy performing this wonderful piece from one of the world’s greatest composers. —- Ervin Monroe, Little Piper Music
