Riffs for Flute (or Clarinet), Bassoon and Piano by Michael Burns
Piano score and parts
I. Waltz
II. Shuffle
Riffs is a two-movement work in the style of a jazz Waltz and a jazz Shuffle. It was written in response to a request from a the composer’s bassoon colleague, Will Dietz, for a sort of “jazz primer” for bassoon with written-out solos in the style of improvisation. All of the parts are written out, but improvisation is encouraged. There is an alternate clarinet part to use in place of the flute if desired.
