For soprano and flute
By Hikaru Hayashi
“Sora”(Sky) was composed in the summer of 1968. It derives from Shuntaro Tanikawa's poetry album entitled “Ehon” (Picture Book).
The first performance was on August 24, 1970 at the Tekko Kan Hall (Steel Auditorium Hall) with (at) the World Expo “70 grounds in Osaka.
Performance was by Mary Morrison (soprano) and Robert Aitken (flute). The composition was made imagining a world of sounds created
by the voice and flute, which were equal in strength but yet well supporting each other.”
