Sonata #33 in Eb Major (K481) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Arranged and edited for Flute and Piano by Stephanie Jutt
Piano score and flute part
I. Molto Allegro
II. Adagio
III. Thema – Var,I – Var. II – Var. III – Var. IV – Var. V – Var. VI
Originally for violin and piano. In transcribing this sonata it was sometimes necessary to shift registers, or exchange small parts with the piano to preserve the shape and flow of the phrases. The first movement, Molto Allegro, is in the expected sonata form, but includes three subjects and a chromatic development section which sets up the recapitulation. The Adagio second movement is an adventurous mix of rondo and variation. The third movement is a Theme and Variations, an intricate comversation between flute and piano which culminates in a gigue of freewheeling joy. — Stephanie Jutt, December 2021
