Kristen Stoner – Sonata for Flute and Piano. In four movements: Mother and Child, The Scream, Starry Night, and Persistence. From the composer: “I composed the Sonata for flute and piano during the COVID pandemic, and each movement is inspired by a particular painting that I felt represented some aspect of my lockdown experience. In addition to writing music that I felt expressed these works of art, I also wrote brief poetry for each movement and re-created each painting in mosaic form, using tiny bits of unrecyclable single-use plastics (very tediously!) while trapped at home. The Sonata can be performed with just the music, or with the spoken poetry added before each movement, and/or with a video projection of the paintings and mosaics to create a multimedia experience for the audience.”
