There is much debate as to who the actual composer of this sonata, whether it was actually JS Bach or one of sons or pupils.  There are three different original manuscripts of this sonata, and none actually name the exact composer.  Along with the Sonatas in C and Eb, it is considered to be one of the disputed sonatas.
