Sonatina for Solo Flute by Richard Rodney Bennett
Publisher: Universal Editions
Instrumentation: Flute
The Sonatina for Solo Flute (1954) is written in the serial 12-note technique, but by stressing certain notes by means of rhythm, the composer gives something of the impression of diatonic melody, and this enables him to construct his movements with recapitulation etc. There are two movements: a slow introduction and a Scherzo, another “Lento” and a finale. This is not a work of great weight, but effectively written for the instrument and with musical individuality.
