Song of Ruth
For Catherine McMichael
For Alto Flute and C Flute (one player), Mezzo-Soprano, Piano
Score and parts
Contains a part written for only C flute if no alto flute is available
This piece was originally commissioned in 1998 by First Presbyterian Church of Saginaw, MI, Greg Largent, music director, for a choral tour of England. The first version was for SATB choir with optional organ accompaniment. An additional arrangement was created for solo soprano and organ. Subsequent requests led to an arrangement for SSAA choir and piano. The latest request led to this version, created for mezzo-soprano, flute, and piano. The original themes are all preserved, but in this arrangement the middle fugal section was eliminated, leaving a beautiful meditation of a length more suitable for concert or church settings.
