      A modern American composer, he wrote this as an homage to the deep sea squid–those magnificient, calculating, eerie dwellers of the depths.  A number of their unique characteristics are portrayed throughout the piece.  These are that they have three hearts, extremely agile, are colorful, are also violent and are mesmerizing.  They do seem perfectly adapted for life in the world of deep, cold, dark waters.
