A Spanish Catalan pianist and composer, he is best known for his piano works based on folk music idioms. Originally written as a suite for solo piano, and were individual pieces grouped together in honor of the Queen of Spain. Each movement depicts a different region and musical style in Spain. The four movements are Granada (a serenade in style), Asturias (Leyenda or flamenco in style), Cadiz (a saeta or revered religious song in style) and Sevilla (a derivative a seguidilla).
