Not merely a recitation of the familiar children's song, Potter's creation includes hints and themes from surprising and delightful sources. She asks that flutists mimic the sound of mice scurrying about, and helpfully provides an instructional YouTube video on the technique. A perfect program piece for children's concerts. “Three Blind Mice starts with an effect meant to imitate the sound of mice running around just out of sight.  Refer to the YouTube video address given in each part if there is any confusion creating this sound.  Everyone should have their flutes up for this section so the audience does not know where the sound is coming from.  The flutter tonguing in the tango section should sound like a snare drum roll.”     –    composer's note
