3 Duets
By Alessandro Rolla
For Flute and Violin
parts only – no score included
The outstanding violinist, viola player, teacher and Italian composer of the 19th century left a rich output, but only a few works for wind instruments. This piece was first printed in 1832, and is here edited by Bernhard Pauler. The flute has a virtuoso part that illustrates Rolla's preference for a figurative, singing and expressive idiom. The violin part, pointedly rhythmical, is mainly an accompaniment; this is surprising in view of the “concertante” approach of this 70 or more duets for 2 violins or violin and viola. Rolla is also known as the teacher of Paganini.
The movements in the duets are:
Duetto I–Larghetto, Rondo
Duetto II–Larghetto, Rondo
Duetto III–Andante sostenuto, Rondo alla Polacca
