Variations on “The Last Rose of Summer” for Flute and Piano by Charles Nicholson
Edited by Irene Maddox
Flutist/composer Charles Nicholson was born in Liverpool in 1795 and died in London in 1837. He was the most esteemed, yet controversial flutist of his time. Variations on The Last Rose of Summer would be delightful as an encore; while technically challenging it helps to give insight into Nicholson’s exploration of the expressive potential of the flute.
