Whippoorwill (Cokpelvpelv) for Piccolo (or Flute) and Piano by Grace Wiley Smith
Published by Falls House Press
Piano score and piccolo part
Dedicated to Feodora Steward, piccoloist emeritus Oklahoma City Philharmonic, longtime friend and teacher.
Solos for piccolo with the Native American influence are rare to non-existent. This is what prompted Grace Wiley Smith to write this piece for the instrument. “Cokpelvpelv”, the Muscogee Creek word for Whippoorwill, denotes Native American flute style with a beautiful melody and brilliant bird-like sounds.
