The work is based on two ideas: an original theme of the composers and the famous hymn “What Wondrous Love Is This?”, which appeared in William Walker’s Southern Harmony in 1835. This tune was selected simply because, in this composer’s opinion, it is one of the most beautiful and inspirational in all folk or hymnal literature.
