Consign Your Flute

1. Tell Us About Your Instrument

Fill out our Request to Sell Form or call us at 248.855.0410 and ask to speak with our Pre-Owned Instrument Specialist, Becca Smith.

2. Ship Your Instrument

The next step is to send your instrument to us with a printed copy of the Request to Sell Form. You may also drop off your instrument at one of our locations (Charlotte, Detroit or San Francisco).

3. We Evaluate Your Instrument

Our Master Technicians will evaluate the condition of your instrument and provide an estimate to prepare the instrument for sale.

Our Pre-Owned Instrument Specialist will determine market value.

We will call you and discuss your best options for selling your instrument.

We sell instruments in two conditions:

    • Certified Pre-Owned
    • Pre-Owned

We will send our Consignment Agreement via email for you to e-sign.

4. Market and Sell Your Flute

Your flute will be professionally photographed and added to our website.

We will make it available for in-home trials and in-store appointments in our showrooms (Charlotte, Detroit and San Francisco). We may also take it to flute festivals and conventions.

Once a sale is finalized, we will send your payment via check and call to congratulate you!

We offer two consignment options: Certified Pre-Owned and Pre-Owned.

Certified Pre-Owned

Flute World Certified Instrument qualifications include:

  • Cleaned and polished body, headjoint, footjoint
  • Cleaned keys
  • Springs in great condition
  • New headcork
  • Pads, bumpers are in great condition and well-positioned
  • All mechanisms (including rods, rod screws, rollers and hinge tubes) are clean and oiled
  • Pads are properly shimmed
  • Key to key adjustments, key height and lost motion are regulated to exact standards
  • Instrument plays in excellent condition

Many of these qualifications can be attained with a Master Service.

Repairs must be completed and paid for before the instrument is listed for sale.

All Flute World Certified instruments are fully maintained throughout the consignment period.

Pre-Owned

Our Pre-Owned option offers a consignment on your instrument without the repair work. Flute World will sell your instrument in the current condition it is in.

The characteristics of non-certified instruments vary. Some are like new, some may need a little work, some may need more extensive work. Some may have been serviced or restored recently by other technicians.

Each instrument has a full write up of the work that is necessary to put it into certifiable condition.

Pre-Owned instruments are not maintained during the consignment period.

Flute World’s commission rate is 25%, with a $500 minimum commission.

Shipping Insurance is to be covered by the instrument owner when shipping to Flute World.

We will cover shipping insurance while the consignment agreement is active (this includes any shipments made for trials, in-store appointments, repairs, festivals and conventions).

If the instrument owner decides to cancel the consignment and take back possession of their instrument, they must cover the insurance on that shipment.

Can I ship my flute to you without calling?

While we love the element of surprise, shipping an instrument without the proper protocol can create confusion.

How can I check in on the activity of my flute?

We offer periodic check-ins via email to let you know how our customers are responding to your flute.
