Handel's oratorio “Israel in Egypt” was first performed at Kings Theater, Haymarket, on April 4, 1739. The work has been championed by Choral Societies since then because of the proliferation of choruses, many double choruses, and because of the wonderful texts taken from Exodus and Psamls describing the bondage, plagues, and flight from Egypt of Moses and his people.
