A favorite hymn is arranged in an especially majestic style that fully explores the tonalities of the flute choir. The different versions of the tune are introduced by a fanfare. A soft legato quartet section follows the grand hymn rendition and then there is the accented and ornamented treatment of this carol that leads to its glorious conclusion. Optional handchimes during the last third of the piece provide an “angelic” effect. This is scored for 6 C flutes with the addition of piccolo, alto, bass and flute 2, 3, & 4 with optional divisi parts.
