Carmen-Impressionen (Carmen Impressions) – Book 1 by Georges Bizet
Edited by Kurt Walther
Arranged for 4 C Flutes (with Flute 3 and Flute 4 doubling on Piccolo)
Includes score and parts
1. Einleitung (Introduction)
The overture of Bizet's opera “Carmen” musically anticipated certain situations of the plot. In this arrangement it is a scene from the fourth act: before the gates of the bullring in Sevilla the people are in high spirits cheering the bullfighters as they appear.
2. Ablosung der Wachen – Lied der Strassenjungen (Changing of the Guard, Chorus of Urchins)
A place in the center of Sevilla: changing of the guard, the relief guard is announced from afar by bold trumpet signals and cheeky piccolo flutes. They approach, surrounded by a hord of urchins who imitate the official ceremony. The boys join in the part of the piccolo flutes: “Here we are, arriving with the changing of the guard. (…) heads up, we march like little soldiers, keeping time – one, two – without mistake.” The guard going off duty marches away accompanied by the sound of trumpets and piccolo flutes.
