Flute choir is a very unique instrumentation that requires particular attention to characterization and mood. These pieces focus on the flute choir's ability to emulate the sound of the calliope, a steam organ often found in carnival settings or on old riverboats. The composition consists of five character movements, each invoking the spirit of one aspect of the carnival.
The composer's program notes for each movement are included with the score.
Movements:
I. Big Top Parade
II. Dance of the Blue Bear
III. A Tilted Carousel
IV. The Lonesome Clown
V. Vanishing Magician
