Performance Notes:
Christmas Greetings was written for the Greensboro Symphony Woodwind Quintet, of which I was a member for several years. During the fall and winter we would play as many as eighty-five thirty minutes concerts in schools in several counties in the Greensboro, NC area. Christmas Greetings was written to be used as an opener but we most often used it as the final piece on the program.
After a quick introduction, Jolly Old Saint Nicholas is heard four measure in one key then four measures up a third. A rollicking Jingle Bells follows and the piece comes to a fermata. A slow What Child Is This (Greensleeves) is presented with a jazz flavor, and Christmas Greetings closes with We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
