This piano reduction of Mozart's Concerto (K299) is the outcome of an attempt to bring the work within the reach of flute enthusiasts, teachers and students, even though a harp may not be available. In condensing the harp and orchestral parts, a balance has been struck in order to maintain clarity in the layout and tonal texture of the score. 

The new edition leans, to a large extent, on a similar version by Emil Prill which appeared at the turn of the 20th Century.  Marks of expression and phrasing have been reduced to conform to the original.  The material used in preparing the edition included the MS 15380 owned by the Prussian State Library, which servedas a basis for comparison, being the oldest source now available since the loss of the original manuscript during the war.

The pianist may go beyond the original marks of expression given, so as to produce suitable tonal contrast and color between the solo harp and full orchestra passages.  To guide the player, all harp passages appearing in the original version are marked thus [ ] .

The supplementary cadenzas for flute and harp are intended for use when giving concert performances of the work.  They can, if desired, be played (for practical purposes) on the piano.  The cadenza duets may likewise be observed.  —- Werner Richter

The solo flute part and the flute/harp cadenza are removable inserts. The solo harp part, however, is printed in the piano score, and is bracketed to differentiate it from the piano reduction of the intervening orchestral material. For this reason, a second copy of this edition will be necessary in order for flutist and pianist to rehearse together with a harpist.

This edition does not include a separate part for a harpist.
