Elegy, op. 119
Composed by Lowell Liebermann (2012)
For flute and piano
Published by Theodore Presser
Duration: ca. 8 minutes
Includes piano score and flute part
In memory of Gustave Manasse
Originally written as an emotionally charged Elegy to clarinetist Jon Manasse’s late father, Dr. Gustave Manasse. This touching and reflective work is sure to add an intensity to any concert and is a favorite among clarinetists. The Elegy begins in plaintive reflection, then passes through an extended section of increasing tension-and-resolve before a reprise brings the piece to a wistful close. The premiere in 2013 was by Jon Manasse (clarinet) and Jon Nakamatsu (piano).
