In the shadow of the glory of the choral work Messiah, Handel wrote another choral work in three acts called Solomon. This work was based on the biblical stories of King Solomon, and this sinfonia was the start of the third act. Originally written for strings with two solo oboes, the writing is typical Handel, with the soloists coloring the string parts, before bursting through with their own duet passages.
