Castle Stalker is a picturesque castle on the western coast of Scotland. The name of the castle in Gaelic is Stalcaire, which means “hunter” or “falconer”. The four movements of Falconer bring a sense of place to the listener: the moody landscape and its brooding castle are portrayed in the first movement. Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland, is only 16 miles away as the falcon flies. The Aire is a sweet serenade, full of heather-scented breeze, and the Reel is a lively Highlands-style dance. Although they are meant to sound like folk tunes, every melody is original.
