A modern American composer, this piece was commissioned by the Phoenix Public Library and the Friends of the Phoenix Public Library. The bassoon part does begin for several measures in tenor clef, before it moves to bass clef where it will stay for the rest of the five movements. Rapid time changes creates much of the excitement in the piece, and the movements are: Fast and lively; Humorous; Langorous, Humorous and Fast with lively.
