Program Notes by Peter Davison:
I was in a distant forest, under an azure sky, on a craggy mountain above a swirling sea. Mother Nature seemed to speak to me with the voice of a flute. She was teasing me, darting here and there, daring me to chase her – and yet warm and welcoming.
This music became the theme of “A Distant Forest,” exploring the feminine, lyrical aspect of the flute. “An Azure Sky” expresses the spiritual element of the flute, a tone revered universally for its healing ability to take us into the fleeting moment when thought seems to stop. The flute's brassy, bright and masculine aspect is the basis for “A Craggy Mountain.”
