Gaelic Melody – Praise and Thanksgiving
Arranged for Flute Choir by Ervin Monroe
Score and parts
Instrumentation: 5 c flutes or 3 c flute, alto flute, bass flute
This ancient Gaelic melody presented here is one of the most popular Gaelic folk melodies ever written and probably dates back more than five hundred years. Like all folk melodies, there are numerous word settings over the centuries. The most familiar text for this Gaelic tune was written in the early 1900s by Albert F. Bayley entitled “Praise and Thanksgiving”, and it is included in many of the hymn books in churches today. In the late 1900s folk singer Cat Stevens popularized this Gaelic melody in the song “Morning Has Broken”.
