Furstenau is considered the most important German flute virtuoso and teacher of the 19th century. This trio in F with fugue was composed around 1840, and shows the integration of fugues that he genuinely strived to show in works of serious musical substance. The movements are Allegro con spirito, Scherzo Vivace with Trio, Andante and Rondo Allegretto with fugue.
