Petite Suite from Jeux d'enfants
Bizet wrote what is widely regarded as one of his masterpieces, Jeux d'enfants, for piano duet in 1871. It had twelve movements and was dedicated to Marguerite de Beaulieu and Fanny Gouin. In the same year, he scored five of the movements for orchestra calling this the Petite Suite. A piano version was published in the following year though the Petite Suite itself was only published in 1882.
The Petite Suite has the most delightful fresh melodies many of which are flute solos, so it transcribes particularly well for flute ensemble.
