Francois Couperin was the most famous of the five generations of the Couperins, most of whom were musicians. To distinguish him from his relatives, he is known as “Couperin Le Grand”.
This piece was taken from Couperin’s Third Book of harpsichord pieces, published in Paris in 1737. Couperin sometimes made suggestions about playing his harpsichord pieces on other instruments, and it was suggested that Le Tic-Toc-Choc might be played on flute with harpsichord accompaniment. The arranger has taken a further liberty, but one which the composer might just have enjoyed.
