“L'Encore” is a short vignette originally composed for Flute, Clarinet (in A) and orchestra accompaniment. For this edition with piano reduction, to transpose the A Clarinet part for B-flat Clarinet would put the clarinet in an awkward key, so instead, included in the volume are additional transposed parts for the flute and piano. Thus, the clarinetist will always play off the clarinet part provided, however, depending on the instrument used, the flute and piano will need to play on the properly corresponding part, either in D Major or E-flat Major.

Program Notes:
      Irish-born and German-raised composer Victor Herbert (1859-1924) led a varied career as a performer, conductor, and composer. Though his first orchestral position was as a flute and piccolo player, he soon-after dedicated himself fully to the cello. Perhaps it was his connection with the flute that led to the composition of this little vignette, L'Encore. Originally for Flute, Clarinet (in A) and Orchestra, at only two-and-a-half minutes in length, this charming and bubbly work makes the perfect… wait for it… you guessed it! Encore!
      I created an edition of the piece for concert band in 2014 and it got me thinking that a piano reduction would enable people to perform the piece in yet another way.
