Instrumentation:  scored for a large flute choir – 6 piccolos (2 doubling on flutes), 4 C flutes, alto flute and bass flute (opt. contrabass flute part included).  A minimum of 12 players is necessary.

Commissioned by Nancy Spidel and the Colorado Flute Orchestra, this suite chronicles the historical development of the candy cane from Cologne Cathedral in the seventeenth century. With a pastoral bass flute melody in 5/8 time, this programmatic movement will sweeten up any Christmas time programme.  A challenging yet tuneful work with interest in all parts.  A Winner in the National Flute Association 2000 Newly-Published Music Competition
