Purple Earth
Composed by Samantha Cooke
for Flute Choir
Published by Alry Publications
Includes score and parts
Purple Earth is an adventure in rhythm and lyrical melody, combined with a blending and contrasting of tone colours as produced by the various members of the flute family. “Purple” suggests a sense of richness and spirituality that relates to the unknown, contrasting with “Earth”, which is solid and dependable.
Purple Earth was composed for the Victorian Flute Ensemble, a part of the Victorian Flute Guild, Inc.
Purple Earth is composed in three movements (Purple Earth I, Purple Earth II, and Purple Earth III). Movements I and III are scored for six C-flutes, alto and bass flutes, with Flute 1 doubling on piccolo in the first movement. Movement II is scored for five C-flutes, alto and bass flutes.
