Program Notes:
      Gioacchino Rossini's beloved opera The Barber of Seville was premiered at the Teatro Argentina in Rome, Italy on Febraury 20, 1816. Though the first performance was not well-received, mainly due to the influences of rival composer, Giovanni Paisiello, and his friends, subsequent performances were much more successful and the opera has been part of the standard operatic repertoire ever since. In the 1820s, French bassoonist François-Rene Gebauer arranged twelve selections from the opera for two bassoons and organized them into two volumes.  Futist Jeffrey Beyer has chosen to transpose, adapt and arrange the following selections from the first volume C Flute and Alto Flute duet.  It should be noted that each aria has been transposed from the bassoon verison to better accommodate the ranges of the flutes, and as a result, they are not compatible with the original edition.
