Melanie Domange nee Bonis (1858-1937)
Published by Edition Kossac
I. Andante con moto
II. Scherzo-vivace
III. Adagio
IV. Finale – moderato
Dedicated to Louis Fleury, the famous teacher at the Conservatoire and friend of the Domange family, the Sonate for Flute and Piano by Melanie Domange nee Bonis (1858-1937) is a large-scale 4-movement work, made entirely from the character of the flute, the instrument of lightness and light, felt, full of poetry and a late romantic-impressionistic atmosphere – a typical French work. The first section Andantino con moto is keyed in four sharps and moves to a Scherzo-Vivace in 3/8 time. This is followed by an Adagio, Allegro ma non troppo, and an Allegretto, all of which is very chromatic. The piece finishes with a brisk Finale-Moderato keyed in the four sharps.
