 The son of a bassoonist and flute soloist of the Grand Opera in France, he composed over a hundred works for flute which were highly esteemed in the 19th century.  This piece was prompted by one of his visits to England between 1817 and 1821, along with 1829.  The first movement is dedicated to an Italian flutist who lived and worked in London for many years.  The second movement is variations on The Last Rose of Summer, a highly popular theme among composers for the flute in the 1800s.  The final movement is We May Roam Through This World.  There is also a version of this piece for two flutes and piano too.
