Andantino con Variazioni (on Paganini)
Composer: Giulio Briccialdi (1818-1881)
Editor: Gian-Luca Petrucci
Publisher: Heinrichshofen
Instrumentation: Flute and Guitar
Includes score and flute part
He was considered the “Paganini of the flute”, because of his performances that reminded of the Paganini's ones, and generally of the Italian performing style of the romantic period, for their perfection and cantability. Briccialdi works with the virtuosity of the pure and simple singing line of Paganini's in this piece. This piece, in the original paganinian version for vocalising voice and guitar, was found at the Casanatense Library in Rome, Italy, and represents the only piece for voice and guitar written by Paganini. The recent discovery of the original manuscript with the variations composed by Briccialdi represents an interesting example of variations on a beautiful vocal theme and shows this piece in its true light, in relation to the notoriety and enjoyment of the works for guitar composed by Paganini.
