This concept of this music is derived from an ancient Korean legend sruurounding the birth of Kang Kam-ch'an, the famous general of the Koryo dynasty who defended Korea invasions from the Ch'i-tan, defeating them in a decisive battle in 1018. According to the legend, just before the birth of Kang, his mother saw a shooting star (Naksong in Korean) and interpreted this as a sign of her furture son's destiny as a great leader. It was originally written for the Taegum, the bamboo transverse flute.
