Around the year 1819 the Parisian publisher Philippe Petit brought out a volume of Duets based on popular melodies from operas by Gioacchino Rossini. The anonymous arrangements for two clarinets (published by Universal Edition as UE 18270) catered to the increasing vogue for compositions for two wind instruments. The present publication is comprised of four selected pieces. By altering the keys, transposing by an octave and occasionally switching the parts, the pieces have been adapted in such a way that flautists can now enjoy these imaginative arrangements for amateur performers. — Heinz Stolba
