Venezuelan born-American composer and conductor, he wrote this miniatures in the spring of his fresman year at Indiana University.  A South American flavor infiltrates the movements, and the rhythms work as an unifying component throughout them.  The first and third movements are the shorter movements, while the second one seeks to evoke an intimate and spiritual mood.  The last bright movement offers groupings of three against two– a recurrent element in his music.
