La Disparition
Composed by Francois Bru
For either 5 or 10 flutes
Published by Billaudot
Duration: 4 minutes
Includes parts only (Each part is a copy of the score)
“La Disparition” is written for 10 flautists, but can also be played by 5 flautists using only voices numbered 1-5 (in which case the bracketed sections should also be played). It is suitable for pupils in their 3rd or 4th year.
The basic idea is to start from a series of 10 notes that progressively “disappear” in the course of the piece, leaving at the very end a single middle E sustained by the interval C♯ – Bb. In the development the writing is horizontal or vertical but never both at the same time. I wrote the piece for my pupils in Cambrai Conservatory to show them some aspects of contemporary flute writing and to give them the occasion for having a group workshop.
