Morning Has Broken, a traditional Gaelic tune, arranged by Ervin Monroe
The ancient Scottish Gaelic tune commonly known as Morning Has Broken has had many texts set to its lovely melody over the years. The original tune was named Bunessan, after the town of Bunessan, located on the isle of Mull, off the west coast of Scotland. This is the location for an old monastery, built in the late sixth century, which introduced Christianity to parts of the British Isles.
Program notes by the arranger and lyrics to the song are in a preface to the score.
Scored for a flexible ensemble (quartet or flute choir):
4 C flutes or 3 C flutes, alto flute or bass flute or 2 C flutes, alto flute and bass flutes
