“I knew from the start that I wanted to write a work celebrating the mundane events in all our everyday lives. The last movement, Embrace, to Sleep was written first, and the first movement was written last. During the writing of I.Americano I was struck by how similar its style (and that of the entire set) is to that of many works by William Bolcom. As Bill is the most important teacher of my composing life I could not think of a more apt expression than to dedicate this woodwind quintet to the great man”.
